ANGUILLA–The Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY) has presented a cheque to the Bethel Methodist Church for US $10,000 for help in restoration. The church roof was destroyed in Hurricane Irma and the congregation has been raising funds for its restoration in keeping with its architectural heritage.

APANY President Carlson Connor-Lloyd presented the cheque from the board and members of APANY to Superintendent Minister Reverend Wycherley Gumbs, at the Sunday, March 31, service.

The restoration work is already in progress thanks to the generous contributions from church members, friends and the community at large. Restoration Committee member Elvett Hughes said, “We are grateful for the timely contribution of US $10,000 from APANY. In addition to this contribution APANY is assisting through facilitating the transfer of contributions made by United States citizens.” This is because APANY is a non-profit organisation with US Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) status and can accept tax-free donations.

Congregational Steward of the Bethel Chapel, Seymour Hodge commented, “We are indeed grateful to the Board of Directors and members of APANY for the invaluable support so far, and look forward to continued assistance as we strive to rebuild the Bethel Chapel.”
