ARUBA–Aruban policeman Tino Ruiz (33) was beaten to death while on duty at Boergoeroei on Monday evening by a man with a history of mental issues. The victim’s partner shot and killed the apparent aggressor.
The patrol was responding to a 7:15pm call about problems with a family member. As Ruiz tried to mediate, one of the persons involved hit him on the head with large stone.
The other officer reacted by opening fire on the 40-year-old alleged attacker, who later died on the spot as a result of his bullet wounds.
The badly hurt officer was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but succumbed to his injuries.
The fatal incident will be further investigated, while the National Detectives are also to look into the shooting as they always do when a law enforcement official uses his or her service weapon.
