CUPECOY–Education Minister Wycliffe Smith on Wednesday urged residents interested in pursuing a career in medicine to make use of the opportunity to apply for a tuition scholarship from American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine, which is located in Cupecoy.
AUC grants scholarships to residents to pursue studies at the medical school located right here in St. Maarten. “AUC also [offers – Ed.] a scholarship to attend medical school, which covers the full cost of tuition and this available to eligible St. Maarten residents,” Smith told reporters at the Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday.
He said four local students have received AUC scholarships and are currently preparing to graduate this year.
“The Ministry is pleased to have AUC as a strategic partner in the education of our local students in the medical field. We congratulate all the scholarship recipients and look forward to their graduation and subsequently their return to serve the community of St. Maarten.
“I encourage those interested in the field of medicine to make use of this unique opportunity and apply to AUC, where I have no doubt that they will receive a solid foundation at a top-class medical institution,” Smith said.
