President of Jeunesse Soualiga Jean-Marc Gervais with French Minister of Overseas Territories Annick Girardin.
MARIGOT–President of Jeunesse Soualiga Jean-Marc Gervais, was in Paris on June 27, at the Elysée Palace to present one of ten projects from St. Martin, at overseas conference Assises des Outre Mer in connection with the publication of the Overseas Blue Book.
The Jeunesse Soualiga project is about a prevention campaign for road safety and drinking and driving, aimed at raising awareness among young people in the territory.
President Gervais had 15 minutes to present his project before the jury and the two ministers, Minister Jacqueline Gourault on behalf of Minister of the Interior, Gérard Collomb, and Minister of Labour, Muriel Pénicaud.
The objective is to launch the campaign in partnership with local actors by early 2019, the expected time frame for the association to complete its financing.
During her last trip to St. Martin on March 5, 2018, the Minister for Overseas Territories Annick Girardin invited the Collectivité of St. Martin to present as many projects as possible. St. Martin was able to gather about ten projects, most of which were related to animation of the city and to raising awareness among young people, joining a total of more than 1,000 projects from overseas territories that were submitted as part of the local Blue Book workshops.
The Blue Book is intended to be an instrument at the service of overseas development, change and influence.
Since its creation in 2004, Jeunesse Soualiga represented St. Martin with dignity with its project “Une Nuit d’Enfer,” which consists of a campaign against addictive behaviour and its consequences and on road safety.
Jeunesse Soualiga will produce a prevention film in which young members of the association will be the actors with a message: “We are the actors of our lives and can change things.”
Present in Paris on the same date, President Daniel Gibbs congratulated Gervais and the members of Jeunesse Soualiga for their constant involvement with the youth of St. Martin.
