PHILIPSBURG–Registered accountant Erik van Engelen will be joining Baker Tilly Sint Maarten as of this month.
Baker Tilly Sint Maarten, as part of Baker Tilly Dutch Caribbean, has been serving the local community with tax advice, payroll and accountancy services since 2012. With the addition of Van Engelen to the team, the umbrella of services now also covers financial auditing and advisory.
Van Engelen started working for Baker Tilly Dutch Caribbean in Curaçao in February 2018. His move to St. Maarten was already planned before hurricanes Irma and Maria struck the island.
These plans were delayed after the hurricanes, but as soon as the opportunity arose, he stepped up the plate to help St. Maarten. Given his governmental and financial supervision background, Van Engelen hopes to contribute to a more trustworthy relationship between the governments of St. Maarten and the Kingdom Council of Ministers and of course facilitate all different types of accounting services.
Van Engelen has worked and lived in St. Maarten before. In 2012, he moved to the island to start up and lead the office of the board of financial supervision CFT in Philipsburg. “He therefore has a broad experience with public finance as well as with government- owned entities,” it was stated in a press release. He also serviced St. Maarten as an auditor from Curaçao for PricewaterHouseCoopers (PwC) between 2004 and 2008.
Baker Tilly Sint Maarten is one of three auditing firms with offices and staff in St. Maarten. From this location services are also rendered on Saba and St. Eustatius. Baker Tilly St. Maarten urges the St. Maarten business community to stop by its St. Maarten office for an exploratory discussion about accounting, auditing or fiscal needs with Van Engelen and the rest of the team. The company also welcomes jobseekers in accounting or tax to pass by and meet its team.
