Band Clash/Road March returns to Carnival Village | THE DAILY HERALD

Band Clash defending champions XP Band.

PHILIPSBURG–St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) will host its annual Road March and Band Clash competition inside Carnival Village today, Monday, starting 7:00pm. Kelvin “King” James will be defending his Road March title while Da BiG BaD XP Band will be defending its title of Band Clash 2018 winner.

The Road March and Band Clash competitions are two shows in one and likely to feature a number of participants similar to Carnival 2018. The show has created enough support from the public to get a permanent spot in the Village. It used to be hosted outside the Village because it did not receive enough support from the public and participants.

Since flagship shows such as Soca Rumble came on the scene, Road March attracted many performers who bring a new sense of competitiveness to the show. Band Clash is three years old and is growing to be a standalone show. Trucks park inside the Carnival Village and supporters gather around the trucks to hear their bands play strictly local music while captivating the crowd.

Nineteen singers will be competing against James in the Road March competition while five bands will go up against XP Band.

The entrance fee for the show is US $10 at the gate.
