PHILIPSBURG–Beyond Kultura Events (BKE) Foundation, which promotes storytelling, writing and reading amongst the youth, has planned the publication of a hurricane storybook in 2019. As part of this project, BKE calls on all pupils and students of primary and high schools in St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius to put their hurricane expressions on paper.

This can be done as a poem or in another written form of expression on one page of A4 paper. The deadline for submission is November 15, 2018.

Schools are being asked to request that their children write about their experiences with the passing of Hurricane Irma and send it to

beyondwriting@hotmail.com with reference to “Hurricane Poem,” mentioning the author’s first name and surname, his or her age and telephone number, the school’s name and email address. The poem or story should have a title and relate to the experience the author has with hurricanes, especially with Irma.

“We hope school managers can help with broadcasting this message in their schools and to stimulate the students to participate. The five best poems will be selected by our writing-experts team and will be published with consent of the winners and their parents,” said BKE president Loekie Morales.

For more information about participation one may call BKE at tel. 527-1223 or send an email.
