ST. EUSTATIUS–Firemen, their spouses and significant others, attended a church service at Big Stone Fellowship, hosted by Pastor Morris Howard and his wife Joyce. The service was a joint Firemen’s Day/Mother’s Day service.   Firefighters of Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department and NuStar Statia Terminal attended the service.

In his address, Pastor Howard quoted Timothy as he spoke about firemen and women; we need them!” To the mothers, he said, “Mothers are blessed, so we must give them their roses while they are alive.”

He admonished the older women to teach the younger ones how to be productive in taking care of their homes. Poems and dedications were recited to the mothers present at the service. Howard concluded by saying women have a great role to play in bringing up their children, and in taking care of their home. Each of the mothers present was presented with a gift from the church.

Fire Chief André Bennett and NuStar’s Olton Berkel both thanked Big Stone Fellowship and Pastor Howard for allowing them to take part in the service.

Afterwards the fathers treated the mothers to lunch, which the men had prepared themselves. The fire personnel were invited to take part in the lunch.

Later that same day, fire personnel spent some time together at Golden Era Hotel, sharing some refreshments and snacks. NuStar’s Berkel spoke on behalf of NuStar Fire Chief Francisco Phillips and local manager Terry Keogh by extending a “thank you” to Fire Chief Bennett and his team for allowing them to be part of the fire personnel’s celebration.
