Big welcome for JetBlue’s daily Fort Lauderdale to SXM flight | THE DAILY HERALD

JetBlue officials, Minister of Finance Perry Geerlings, First Vice-President of the Collectivité of St. Martin Valérie Damaseau and Tourist Bureau members at PJIA on Thursday after the arrival of JetBlue’s aircraft.

PHILIPSBURG–JetBlue’s newest flight from Fort Lauderdale to St. Maarten landed at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) on Thursday carrying 127 passengers who received a warm welcome reception from a delegation led by Finance Minister Perry Geerlings and First Vice-President of the Collectivité of St. Martin Valérie Damaseau.

During a brief reception at the Departure Gate, JetBlue Director of International BlueCities Giselle Cortes introduced St. Maarten’s newest flight as a great addition to its Latin America and Caribbean routes. JetBlue’s new nonstop service to St. Maarten arrives at PJIA daily at 11:55am and departs to Fort Lauderdale at 12:55pm.

During his brief address, Geerlings spoke of the benefit of JetBlue to the destination as it rebuilds post-Irma: “Today, JetBlue has again shown its commitment to the rebuilding of St. Maarten’s economy with the addition of this new route that adds more than 62,500 seats for the destination. This translates into thousands of heads-in-beds for our hotels and as many covers for our local bars and restaurants. It piques the interest of even more travellers and signals that St. Maarten is definitely open for business.”

Fort Lauderdale, JetBlue’s South Florida focus city, plays a key role in supporting the airline’s growing route map and offers flights to nearly every corner of the airline’s network from Lima to Los Angeles. It is one of JetBlue’s fastest-growing focus cities, serving customers throughout South Florida and offering a fast and convenient alternative for Miami-Dade travellers.

PJIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brian Mingo said the airport was proud of the achievement, given that years of hard work had gone into getting the new route. JetBlue has committed to up to 140 daily departures in the coming years and recently expanded its operation to new gates in Terminal 3 and began utilising Terminal 1 for additional international arrivals to help support future growth.

JetBlue is also the only airline to offer a premium, lie-flat seat on domestic routes from Fort Lauderdale with its Mint flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
