PHILIPSBURG–STORM, the newest spiritual child of author Loekie Morales will soon be available in English. The book will be published by Beyond Kultura Events (BKE) Foundation and will have its premiere in Sint Maarten.
Main sponsors such as the Central Bank of St. Maarten and Curaçao, The Prins Bernhard Cultural Fund, The Windward Islands Bank and The Nederlandse Taal Unie are supporting the publication in stimulating comprehensive reading among the youth.
September 6, 2017 was the day of the most destructive national disaster and the worst nightmare St. Maarten had ever seen. On that day Hurricane Irma slammed her tail and left the island in total chaos and shambles.
STORM is a book about the dramatic, but also uplifting experiences of two young boys David and Tony, during and after the arrival of the monster called Irma.
The author, proofreader Rietje Sint and translator Barbara van der Woude finalized their work weeks ago but had to await finalization of the paintings of illustrator Penka Petkova to complete the book.
Last Friday, September 20, the layout work was finalized by company HD Ontwerp, which combined the story about Irma’s passing with the winning hurricane poems of the Beyond Kultura Writing competition 2019. The story and the poems are supported by Petkova’s illustrations.
Damen Drukkers in The Netherlands will have the books printed by mid-October, after which they will be shipped to St. Maarten. The date for a book launching will be announced by BKE as soon as the books arrive.
