Black smoke billows from yet another huge dump fire

POND ISLAND–Plumes of black smoke are again billowing out of the country’s problematic dump. The cause of the blaze is yet unknown.

The Fire Department is battling the blaze as the smoke continues to choke residents in the areas surrounding the dump. The plumes of black smoke are so thick and high that they are very visible not only from surrounding areas on land but from ships at sea.

“Mount Garbage” as the landfill is often referred to has long surpassed it lifespan. Successful governments have promised to remedy the problem, but all have failed to make any progress.

The “mount” now has a twin. Another section of Pond Island was used to pile debris generated by Hurricane Irma’s wrath.
