The new Ferry Terminal at Blowing Point.
ANGUILLA–From today, Monday, December 24, arriving and departing passengers at Blowing Point will be far more comfortable. The Board of Directors, management and staff of the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) have announced that the ferry operations and charter services will now be conducted at the new temporary terminal commonly known as the “Big Jim” building.
The AASPA intends that this change in operations should reflect the importance it places on moving passengers safely and efficiently, while seeking to ensure the aesthetics and operations to complement Anguilla’s status as a five-star destination. The Authority is thanking the travelling public in advance for their patience during the transition.
Governor Tim Foy and Deputy Governor Perin Bradley visited the new facility and congratulated AASPA and the Ministry of Infrastructure for working day and night to achieve this. The governor said it was a much improved facility for the almost 400,000 people who pass through the port every year, adding said that work for the new permanent facility would begin in the new year with additional changes in the road layout as well. The UK government has committed nearly US $10 million for the project that he predicts will be completed in early 2020.
Passengers and other patrons of the Blowing Point Ferry Port are asked to follow and adhere to all functional signage and to enquire from any management and staff members about procedures at the Port. Parking will be catered for at dedicated areas that will be indicated clearly with signs. Public access to the beach will be from the northern side of the temporary building and AASPA’s staff will be present to assist and direct travellers and others.
The AASPA has announced that it is extremely grateful to the UK government for the support from its technical assistance personnel and for the provision of grant funds. The funds will cover the works necessary to retrofit the building to a functional passenger terminal and will pay the rent and utilities. Thanks are also extended to Governor Foy and his staff and Chief Minister Victor Banks as well as Minister of Infrastructure Curtis Richardson, Customs, Immigration, Police and Port Manager Dale Rogers.
The transfer to the new building is a big step forward and all patrons are being asked to follow officials’ guidance as the changes are made.
