MARIGOT–The body of a deceased man was discovered in an apartment in the centre of Marigot at 9:00pm January 1, 2019, the Gendarmerie reported on Wednesday.
Capitaine Thierry Verres said it was too early to give any details about the deceased and the cause of death. An investigation into the death has been opened under the supervision of the Prosecutor.
A jet ski accident resulting in injury to a 16-year-old boy occurred at Orient Beach on Christmas Day. The boy was riding the jet ski with his father when a wave knocked the boy off the machine. In the fall he somehow hit his head on the body of the jet ski and was rendered unconscious.
He was brought ashore where luckily there just happened to be a nurse and a doctor on the beach who managed to revive him. He was then taken to the French-side hospital and then on to Guadeloupe for more specialised care.
The Gendarmerie said the water-sports operator that rented out the jet ski was not at fault. The jet ski was functioning normally and all rules and safety procedures had been followed. Capitaine Verres said the boy’s life was not in danger and he will recover.
The father and son were visiting on a cruise ship and decided to spend the day at Orient Beach.
