Body of one of missing fishermen found

ANGUILLA—The body of 55 year old Sydney “Ching” Carty who was missing at sea after an accident on Monday evening,  was found on Wednesday December 16.

Officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Force Marine Unit as well as the brother and friend of one of the missing persons returned to the disaster area early on Wednesday. The body was recovered from the waters off Prickly Pear, where the fishing boat had capsized, by his brother Douglas “Duggie” Carty and brought into Road Bay by the Marine Unit on board the MV Dolphin. It was later handed over to the Coroner.

On Thursday the Marine Unit plans to continue the search to include a wider area to the north towards Sombrero in an effort to locate the body of Arthur “Beige” Greenidge of Sandy Ground who is still missing.

Acting Commissioner of Police Elliot Forbes is thanking the various persons and organisations that assisted in the search and rescue and the eventual recovery. Those who assisted included the French and Dutch Coast Guard, the Fisheries Department, and local fishermen from Sandy Ground and Island Harbour.
