MARIGOT–Organiser Calypso Events is anticipating a fabulous eight-week run of live music, entertainment, Carnival-themed parades, art displays, food stands and handicrafts exhibits by local artisans when Les Mardis de Grand Case rolls out onto the Boulevard on Tuesday, February 5, from 6:00pm onwards.

The popular event attracts some 3,000 tourists and locals each evening and will be held on eight consecutive Tuesday evenings, in contrast to the four evenings in 2018, although organisation that year was in much more difficult circumstances so soon after Hurricane Irma.

The entire boulevard will play host to some 60 exhibitors this year and will be transformed into a pedestrian thoroughfare.

Not to be missed are the boulevard’s boutiques, art galleries, lolos, and internationally-renowned restaurants that stay open late on these evenings.

A press conference held in Plantation Hotel, Orient Bay, with Calypso Events Director Chantal Vernusse on Thursday gave more details of the event, introduced the main sponsors, and revealed some new activities and themes to diversify and broaden its appeal to the public.

Among the innovative ideas introduced this year is Ti Boutique, a universe dedicated totally to Les Mardis de Grand Case where one can buy souvenirs, accessories, and other interesting items.

Mardis’ Cover is a space for any talented artistes of any genre who want to channel their skills live, or for a recording.

A dedicated dance floor for Caribbean music is also new this year for those who want to dance to salsa, bachata, or zouk.

A food corner is also devoted to local traditional cuisine where cooks can compete for prizes for best dish.

Communications provider Dauphin Telecom is organising a photo contest and offering two Huawei media Pad T3 tablets valued at 199 euros each as prizes for participants posting winning photos on Facebook and Instagram. Homage will be paid to the late photographer Alain Duzant with an exhibition of his work on display each Tuesday evening.

The public is reminded that no parking is allowed on the boulevard from 4:00pm on Tuesdays. The Boulevard is completely closed to traffic from 6:00 to 10:30pm.

Main sponsors of the event this year are Caribbean Liquors and Tobacco (CLT), Dauphin Telecom, and Immun’ Age with numerous part-sponsors.
