PORT–Boxing Day, December 26, was the busiest cruise ship day of 2018. Seven cruise ships came into port. Six vessels berthed alongside the two cruise piers at Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facility while the seventh anchored in Great Bay.
The seven ships combined brought some 26,900 and 9,900 crew members.
In port were cruise ships: Adventure of the Seas, Marella Explorer, MSC Seaside, Celebrity Edge, MV Britannia, Celebrity Silhouette, and Harmony of the Seas. Three ships – Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Silhouette and Marella Explorer – stayed in port until late in the night allowing cruisers to sample the country’s nightlife.
Celebrity Edge made her inaugural call here last week. MSC Seaside made her inaugural call here in the first half of 2018.
Port St. Maarten management crew members play a crucial role in the economic recovery of the destination, as surveys have shown that they make a considerable contribution to the economy.
The destination is expected to maintain a certain standard across the board to continue to grow the cruise tourism product in 2019, said the Port. “It is essential that destination visitor appeal is maintained by our destination partners, stakeholders and the population at large, in order to continue the success of cruise tourism.”
