MARIGOT–The Business Professional Women (BPW) Association of Concordia issued a statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The 2018 BPW theme is #PressforProgress.

“We know that gender parity will not happen overnight, however, there is a very strong and growing global infatuation with advocacy, activism and support working in this direction,” the association said in its release. “We partner with all other local and international organisations to celebrate this annual event for women’s achievement and to advance gender equality.

“Women play a big role in the success of businesses on the island and around the world. Nevertheless, they are less likely than men to be entrepreneurs, most likely to be part-time, casual or unskilled.

“Businesses alone cannot solve global gender equality issues, but they can make the workplace a space where everyone will take the time to recognise the value of women in their organisations, as well as their contribution to the success of the company.

“Even if there is still some way to go for equality between men and women, companies must already take into account, when organizing their operations allowing women to develop intellectually in their workplace. The recognition of women’s work, their intrinsic qualities, can contribute to the success of the company.

“The goal of BPW Concordia is to unite business women and professional women to achieve, educate and empower economically, seek equality, personal development and political awareness. Our mission and vision remain the same as those of our sisters around the world, namely, to develop women’s professional leadership at all levels.

“BPW Concordia congratulates and encourages all successful women in our community and in our #PressforProgress organisation and to continue to raise awareness. Let’s follow our passions even when the world does not seem to recognise our strength as it should. Let’s persevere together. Happy International Women’s Day.”
