MARIGOT–Business Professional Women (BPW) Concordia St. Martin celebrated the 88th birthday of BPW International at Loterie Farm on Sunday. Members were proud to wear yellow for the occasion.

“On August 26, 1930, The International Federation of Business Professional Women was founded by Leena Mardesin Philips, now known as BPW International,” BPW Concordia stated in a press release. “She served as President for 18 years. She was a visionary. She saw that women can come together from around the globe to network and combat various issues that women were facing. Today, we are living her dream!

“BPW is a non-governmental organisation that has had consultative status with the United Nations (UN) through the economic and social council since 1947. We have partnerships with the UN, International Trade Center (ITC), International Organisation of Employers, We Connect, Global Summit of Women, etc.

“BPW Concordia St. Martin was founded on June 18, 2017. We chose to add Concordia to our name to promote the peaceful harmony that is existing on this island for about 370 years.

“Our mission remains the same as BPW International: elevate the status of women in the community by hosting programmes focused on advocacy, training and education to promote economic and social empowerment in women and young girls.”
