PHILIPSBURG--As the COVID-19 numbers continue to plummet, the country will soon return to a state of normalcy as it relates to the opening hours of businesses.

As of next week Friday, March 19, businesses are expected to be allowed to open until 4:00am. Businesses are currently allowed to open until 2:00am.

Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) Ludmila de Weever said on Wednesday that authorities are in the final stages of updating the ministerial regulation controlling business operating hours, as well as encouraging and reminding everyone of the COVID-19 guidelines.

“This will be in place as of next week Friday to go into effect,” she said during the live virtual Council of Ministers press briefing. “The ministerial regulation will be published this week once it has been finalised and we will be extending business hours to 4:00am as we start to get back more and more to normal.

“One thing I would like to remind the public as well, which they have seen, is our low numbers – the lower the numbers, the faster we go from a higher rating especially with the US [United States – Ed.] market and go down to a lower risk rating so that we can actually welcome more people to our shores.”
