PHILIPSBURG–In keeping with the law on shop closures, all businesses in the country, including stand-alone casinos, are to be closed on Good Friday, March 30, as this is an official public holiday, Acting Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) Cornelius de Weever said on Wednesday.
The mandatory closure does not apply to pharmacies, bars and restaurants, hotels and guesthouses, stores located in hotels, stores at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and at Port St. Maarten, funeral parlours, gas stations and bakeries selling pastries, milk and milk products.
De Weever said during the Council of Ministers press briefing that no dispensation will be granted for businesses to be open on Good Friday unless otherwise stipulated by him as Minister. De Weever said he has not granted any dispensation thus far.
He wished everyone a safe holiday weekend.
