Disaster Risk Management Expert and Director of the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre at University of The West Indies Mona campus, Jamaica, Barbara Carby, recently consulted a cross section of people in St. Maarten as part of the country’s recovery effort and development of a disaster management programme. The independent evaluation was facilitated by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Prime Minister Leona Marlin-Romeo, the Emergency Operation Centre and Disaster Management Team. Carby consulted people from government, the private sector, non-governmental organisations, and the wider community about aspects of immediate preparedness, operations, restoration and humanitarian assistance.
