- EUSTATIUS–Children and their parents and guardians in St. Eustatius came out in force to Sunday’s Candy Crush Balloon Jump-Up. The theme for the event was “Candy Crush – It’s Like Christmas In July.”
The Jump-Up, which kicked off in front of Yummy Tummy restaurant on Paramiraweg, was temporarily disrupted when the heavens opened up and the attendees had to run for cover. Characters from Paw Patrol entertained the children throughout the parade.
After the rain stopped, the jump-up continued with the children dancing to the beat of music provided by DJ Runn Things. Members of the St. Eustatius Police Department escorted the jump-up safely through the streets.
After the jump-up concluded at Mike van Putten Youth Centre/Carnival City, Statia Carnival Committee President Teena Lopes and her daughter Geneisis George, winner of the Daughters of the King (DOTK) Mother-Daughter Pageant, entertained the crowd with games, singing competitions and other fun activities. The children were able to win a variety of prizes and many of the children left with goodies they had won. Others had received free T-shirts during the parade.
Statia Carnival will continue today, Tuesday, at 8:00pm, with Youth Night featuring performances by Raw Life featuring Enigma, Kay, Ishn Courtar, the Titus band and Mia Jenna Courtar, as well as special appearances.
The show at Carnival City, which is themed “Spread the Love,” will give the youths on the island a chance to showcase a variety of talents.
