Caribbean Lottery Site Operations Manager Paula Williams presents a US $700 donation cheque to Lion Wally Havertong.
PHILLIPSBURG–Caribbean Lottery is sponsoring gift baskets valued at US $700 for the Lion Wally Havertong Spectacular Christmas Bingo at the St. Maarten Festival Village scheduled for Saturday, December 8.
This year the St. Maarten Lions Club’s work will focus on an important youth programme, club president Carmen Lake said. “We are concerned for the welfare of our young students in elementary schools,” she said. “With the funds raised, we are planning to start building a kitchen that will provide meals – starting with breakfast – for children ages 3-11 years, who often go hungry.”
The Club sponsored eyesight testing for every elementary school pupil on the island this year, and is always ready to assist residents with eyesight requirements.
“All the funds we raise go straight back into the community,” Lake said.
“Caribbean Lottery has always been a faithful contributor to the Lions Christmas Bingo,” said Lions Club bingo caller Wally Havertong, after whom the event is named. He expressed appreciation for the assistance for the Lions Club’s major fundraising activity.
“It’s that time of year again. As always, Caribbean Lottery strives to support community development and the empowerment of our citizens. The Lions Club of St. Maarten is a well-established service club since 1970, and its work to enhance the wellbeing of the entire community over the decades is admirable. We are happy to sponsor this event, and hope that everyone enjoys themselves in the spirit of Christmas,” Caribbean Lottery Site Operations Manager Paula Williams said.
