Caring cruisers | THE DAILY HERALD

Lower Prince’s Quarter resident Elsa Philips (67) has a reason to smile thanks to a donation for her rebuilding efforts from cruisers who came here for their Caribbean sail aboard homeporting cruise ship “Star Flyer.” After sailing, the cruisers from tour operator SeaTravel Ham GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, converted to stayover visitors for several days to enjoy the sites and activities.

They did not want to just see the island, but to help in rebuilding. Their trip was originally planned two years ago. Following Hurricane Irma, cancellation was considered. However, after a site inspection guided by local tour operator Rising Sun Tours, the German company’s representatives decided to continue with an added social element that directly benefited a family.

Philips was the chosen recipient. She lives with her two daughters and their six children in severely-hurricane-damaged two-bedroom house. The roof and bathroom leak, water from which accumulating in the kitchen. The donors hope their support will help in some way to better the situation. Artemia Event Planners also assisted in this social effort.
