PHILIPSBURG–Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin requested Wednesday’s central committee meeting of Parliament be held behind closed doors, sparking an off camera discussion on whether the session to deal with the country’s recovery, role of the World Bank and an update on the recent cyber-attack on government’s information system should be closed off to the public.
The concensus after the closed discussion was to shut the session from the public for the Prime Minister’s presentation as this contained sensitive information. The general understanding is the session will be open again when Members of Parliament are ready to debate on the agenda points.
The effectiveness of this approach is said by some to be questionable as information received in the closed portion can be used by MPs in the open presentation and question part.
The meeting was requested last week by the five-seat National Alliance (NA) faction, headed by MP Silveria Jacobs.
