Chinese supermarket robbed at gunpoint in Concordia Monday

MARIGOT—A Chinese supermarket in Concordia was robbed of its takings at gun point on Monday afternoon at 4:30, the Gendarmerie disclosed.

In a now familiar modus operandi, two individuals wearing helmets approached the supermarket on a scooter. One carried a gun and threatened the cashier before 400 in mixed euros and US dollars was stolen from the cash drawer. The thieves escaped on the scooter. There were no injuries to cashier or employees in the supermarket.

Asked about Sunday’s car accident in Sandy Ground, Capitaine Régis Turlan confirmed a car with Dutch-side plates driven by a Venezuelan man crashed into a house in Sandy Ground at 9:10am. The man was indeed intoxicated and tried to escape when Gendarmes arrived. He was detained and charged for driving under the influence of alcohol. There was no confirmation that the driver was being pursued by another car.
