ST. EUSTATIUS–St. Eustatius has gotten into the holiday spirit with the start of the second annual Christmas Village, themed “Let’s bring back the Christmas family spirit.” The village is hosted by the Lion’s Club in the Mike van Putten Youth Centre.
Several booths are decorated with fairy lights and trimmings. They offer variety of food, snacks and drinks. Some booths are open from lunchtime until late into the night. Christmas and popular music help to liven up the atmosphere.
Santa Claus will make an early stop in Statia today, Thursday. He will drive through the streets to hand out sweets starting at 4:00pm.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold its Christmas programme on Saturday morning in Newton’s Pasture. The church’s usher department host a Red and White banquet on Sunday from 7:00pm to 10:00pm in the Youth Centre. Organisers invite residents to take a day off from Christmas shopping to enjoy an evening of food and relaxation. Children under age 17 are not permitted at the event.
The “Winter Wonderland” show will start at 7:00pm on the Statia Day stage opposite Charlie’s place. Santa Claus will be present for photos. Attendees are encouraged by show organisers to walk with flashlights.
The Royalty Organisation EUX fundraiser – Jingle Run and Fun Day with Asha and Kids is set for Sunday from 9:30am until 5:00pm on the NuStar playground. The event will feature a big race event and relay competition. Children can play games and eat pizzas for free. Other food and drinks will be on sale.
The Bethel Methodist Junior Choir will host a candlelight service themed “The Messiah is Here, Oh what a joy!” on Sunday at 7:00pm at their church.
The Catholic Church holds three masses on Monday: the first two are at 5:00am and 9:00am. The Christmas Eve mass starts at 10:30pm. The Catholic Angels will hold mass on Christmas Day at 9:00am.
“Operation Santa Claus” will handout gift to children on Boxing Day, December 26, in the Youth Centre starting at 4:00pm. The cutest baby competition winners will be announced at this event. Voting for the competition via the Operation Santa Claus Facebook page ends on December 25.
The last Taste of Culture for the year is set for December 27 starting at 6:00pm
