Collectivité to celebrate Christmas with market, 500 gifts for children | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT–The Collectivité and its partners SEMSAMAR, Port of Marigot, and St. Martin Tourism Office will be organising a grand distribution of Christmas presents for children ages four to 10 years in the garden of Hotel de la Collectivité on Sunday, December 22.

Some 500 presents of an educational nature will be given out by Father Christmas from 4:00pm Sunday. Children can submit their wishes for a present to Father Christmas by placing their requests in a letterbox at the St. Martin Tourism Office on Rue Général de Gaulle or with businesses in Marigot.

The 500 beneficiaries of gifts will be chosen by a draw, with lucky children selected by Miss France candidate Miss St. Martin/St. Barths Layla Berry.

A Christmas Village will also be installed in the garden for vendors selling traditional Christmas fare, cakes, puddings and punches. Vendors can reserve a spot by contacting the Culture Service of the Collectivité.

There will be no Christmas lights in Marigot this year. The Collectivité explained that the lights used in 2018 were already ones that had been repaired just for one season. For security reasons they cannot be used again. And because of the high cost it was not possible to include new ones in the 2019 budget. However, a bid will be launched to have new Christmas lights next year.

The Merchants Association of Marigot ACM is organising a Christmas market at the entry to Marina Royale, Marigot, and on Rue Kennedy from Friday, December 20, to Tuesday, December 24 from 9:00am to 6:00pm. There will be live music, Father Christmas, and plenty of stands. Interested exhibitors should call (0690) 22.91.63. to reserve a spot (100 euros for the five days).
