PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Consumers Coalition discussed its concerns about issues affecting consumers in St. Maarten during a meeting with St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI) on Thursday.
Co-ordinator of the Consumers Coalition from the St. Maarten Seniors and Pensioners Association (SMSPA) Raymond Jessurun met with COCI President Stanley Lint to discuss the issues being experienced by consumers, and how they can be addressed. COCI said in a press release issued on Thursday that the meeting shone “a new light” on the current situation in St. Maarten and how it can be addressed and approached “from all angles to the best of our capabilities.”
Jessurun had said prior to the meeting that the Coalition wanted to get the views of the COCI on a number of issues, including the possibility of partnering to highlight businesses that lead by example as good social corporate citizens. The spiralling cost of living and the increase in the prices of consumer goods were amongst the issues Jessurun said he wanted to raise with the Chamber.
