ST. EUSTATIUS--The government of St. Eustatius signed a contract with Capitalize Through Creativity (CTC) NV on Friday, April 2, for the erection of two storage sheds, including foundation and floor, at the waste management plant.
Project-Buro Program Management Organization (PPMO) Project Manager Elvin Henriquez said one of the new storage sheds will house the plastic and cardboard recyclables the island plans to export for recycling. This is all part of ongoing plans to upgrade recycling operations on the island in the coming months.
The second storage shed is in preparation for a new incinerator for the island. Government Commissioner Alida Francis said the island as a whole cannot wait any longer for this. Operators of the facility had to be very creative with regard to storage at the facility. With these two new storage sheds, everyone will have a better outlook when they enter the facilities.

“All in all, this is a very good step in the right direction," said Francis. She added that government is happy that the initiative has reached a stage where two new storage sheds will be erected and it gives her great joy when the local business community ascends to new heights.
The project leader and the project manager will supervise the work on behalf of the public entity. They will work together with the contractor to ensure that every stage of the project is properly managed. “It is important that we ensure everything is done to specification. I think one of the important things to say in regard to waste management here on the island is that we are taking some very steady steps to continue to improve operations,” Francis said.
For the company that manages the island’s waste, “EJL Services”, Francis said it is important that government, as owner of the facility, “put in place a proper facility so that they can do their work to the optimum.”
Also present at the signing, which was held at the Government Administration Building on Tonningenweg, were contractor and owner of CTC NV Ricardo Fortin Jr.; Chief Procurement-Purchasing CPO Officer David Ignacio; and Rijkswaterstaat RWS Project Manager R.M. Landsbergen. Francis signed on behalf of the Statia Government and Fortin signed on behalf of CTC NV.
