PHILIPSBURG–A 49-year-old contractor may be facing three years in jail for allegedly raping a nineteen-year-old woman who was two days in his employment, on December 19, 2017.
The defendant R.A. denied the allegations. The Court will give its decision April 18.
The suspect has a reputation of being a drunk and a womaniser, but denied he had had intercourse with the young woman, who was 30 years his junior. He also denied he had a drinking problem.
The victim claimed she was threatened with a gun and forced to go with A. to his home in St. Peters, where he violently raped her on the glass table in his living room.
The Prosecutor’s Office found rape legally and convincingly proven as A., who was the victim’s boss, had forced his subordinate to have involuntary sex with him.
“Sex crimes are always difficult and delicate,” attorney Geert Hatzmann said in defending his client. He said he did not want to sling mud, but made some critical remarks about the victim’s incriminating statements.
He pointed out that no firearm had been found. He also stated that his client, who was described as a predator and an alcohol addict with an insatiable lust, would have had difficulties in keeping the victim under control.
Hatzmann also said he was surprised that after the alleged incident the alleged victim had gone to Subway for a bite together with her assailant.
The lawyer pointed out that no suspect’s DNA or sperm or any wounds had been found on the victim and called for his client’s full acquittal.
