PHILIPSBURG–Counterfeit NAf. 100 notes are currently being circulated in Curaçao, the Central Bank for Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) said in a press statement over the weekend.
CBCS said it has been informed of the circulation of the counterfeit notes and it is alerting the public to pay attention when accepting banknotes, particularly the NAf. 100 ones. “If you find yourself in the situation where you doubt the authenticity of a banknote, we strongly advise you not to accept the suspect banknote. You are reminded that it is illegal for any person and or institution to accept counterfeit banknotes,” CBCS said in its release.
“You are advised to immediately contact the police if you think you’re dealing with a counterfeit banknote.”
The counterfeiting of banknotes and the fraudulent use of counterfeit means of payment are punishable by imprisonment of up to nine years, CBCS said. More information about the security features of banknotes can be obtained by visiting CBCS’ website at:
