PHILIPSBURG–The Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club facilitated thirteen Court of Guardianship employees for a six-session speech-craft programme that allowed experienced Toastmasters to present the fundamentals of public speaking to non-members. The programme was conducted throughout the month of May and participants were given a unique opportunity to learn public speaking and evaluation skills in a safe and supportive environment. Given the participants’ line of work, the programme was geared towards improving their problem-solving, impromptu speaking, listening, social and critical thinking skills, which promises to help them in their daily work activities.

Participants were able to speak before both small and large audiences, effectively evaluate the meeting and speeches, introduce speakers and gain confidence in public speaking while engaged in team-building. The speech-craft programme ended with a graduation ceremony during which the participants displayed their newly-acquired knowledge and skills before their family, friends and seasoned Toastmasters.

The Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club is the only corporate club on the island designed for civil servants of St. Maarten. Meetings are held at the New Government Administration Building at 5:30pm on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month.
