PHILIPSBURG–Dance and Arts Dimensions Academy (DADA) Foundation is on a mission to spread some “Christmas Cheer” by giving 1,000 gifts to as many children on the island on Sunday, December 17.
DADA prides itself on giving back to the community as much as it can and this year it decided to go the extra mile. School management announced the initiative on Wednesday.
“At this time of year, parents and children alike are starting to wonder what kind of Christmas they will have in 2017. The Christmas season is a time of giving and fellowshipping with family and loved ones which unfortunately many children will not experience due to the lack of parental income and displacement,” management stated ion a press release.
“The most vulnerable ones in our community dealing with the aftermath are our children. Many children are still traumatised, scared, homeless, confused and struggling. Schooling has resumed and our resilient teachers are back in the classrooms doing their best under the circumstances.
“The children of St. Maarten are extremely resilient and are settling back into their daily school routines and adjusting to their new normal. They are mostly unaware of the position many of their parents may be in with reduced salaries and unemployment,” according to their press release.
DADA has been seeking sponsorship for the gift presentation and said this will take place at Belair Community Centre from 10:00am to 2:00pm Sunday.
“Many families are still displaced, living in shelters, guest houses or under tarpaulins. Great or small, everyone has suffered in one way or another,” It said.
Gifts for 1,000 children is an enormous task, but one that is very much possible with the assistance of many hands and hearts.
“Christmas Helping Angels will be giving out the gifts on Sunday. The day will be filled with hugs, music, pictures and more,” stated the school’s management.
