Day of Prayer service Sunday   | THE DAILY HERALD

POND ISLAND–Government, in collaboration with the Christian Council, the United Ministerial Foundation and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, will hold the fourteenth annual National Day of Prayer in front of the Government Administration Building at 4:30pm Sunday, January 13.

This ecumenical service, held on the second Sunday of January, was decreed by Executive Council Resolution of the then-Island Territory of St. Maarten in 2005. It has since been part of the annual cultural calendar.

Culture Minister Wycliffe Smith said the National Day of Prayer “offers the opportunity for us, as a people, to come together and give God thanks for His guidance, mercy and protection during the past year and to seek His guidance, direction, protection and wisdom during this New Year.”

Smith invites people of all faiths on the island “to come together on Sunday … to pray for our nation and use this opportunity to remain united and focused – united as one people as we move forward and focused on the needs of our people and our country.”
