POND ISLAND–The deadline for application for Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Scholarship Foundation study grants and scholarships is April 15. St. Maarten students are encouraged by acting Tourism Minister Cornelius de Weever to take advantage of the opportunity.
The Scholarship Foundation accepts applications for residents of CTO member countries such as St. Maarten. The aim is to provide opportunities for Caribbean nationals to pursue studies in tourism, hospitality and language training. Individuals who demonstrate high levels of achievement and leadership inside and outside the classroom and who express a strong interest in making a positive contribution to Caribbean tourism are preferred by CTO.
Scholarships of up to US $12,000 can be granted to individuals who want to study tourism or hospitality at the Master’s degree (post-graduate) level.
Study grants of up to $2,500 can be accessed by individuals pursing tourism/hospitality studies at the certificate, diploma, associate degree or first degree level, and to industry personnel who want to gain proficiency in a second language to assist them in their jobs.
A scholarship of up to $2,500 is offered in the name of CTO’s former Director of Research and Information Management Arley Sobers for persons working in local tourism organisations such as the Ministry of Tourism or the Board of Tourism, who wish to strengthen their skills in research and statistics.
Studies can be pursued within and outside the region.
