Delegation assesses use of European funds in St. Martin | THE DAILY HERALD

Meeting in progress on the use of European funds.

MARIGOT–Second Vice-President in charge of Economic Development Yawo Nyuiadzi received a delegation from the European Commission led by Xavier Godard on Wednesday and Thursday May 22 and 23 that came to take stock of the use of European funds in St. Martin.

The purpose of this visit was to take stock of progress in the implementation of the operational programme for European funds in St. Martin and to discuss future prospects.

Nyuiadzi recalled the support effort initiated by the Collectivité for the reconstruction of the territory with the support of European funds. Europe has spent seven million euros on the rehabilitation of the tourist accommodation sector, thanks to European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). A promotional programme will soon be launched in anticipation of the new tourist season to assist tourist establishments in their promotion. Some three million euros has been allocated to this operation.

ERDF also supports reconstruction of the Quartier d’Orléans Collège (more than nine million euros of work), reconstruction and creation of wastewater treatment plants, creation of a dedicated dock for fishermen, and work on the road network.
