Destra headlines Lighted Parade | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Rio Productions announced on Tuesday that Bacchanal Queen Destra Garcia will be the main feature during its seventh annual Lighted Parade set for August 18.

Garcia was born in Trinidad and has built a large international following for her highly energetic performances and most popular carnival songs.

According to a statement from Rio Productions management, “It will be the first time ever that Desta will be performing during the Lighted Parade, and it promises to be hours of non-stop partying on the roads of Philipsburg. It has always been our vision to further expand the parade by continually adding new elements to it, and become the best organised and most professional Carnival Night Parade in the Caribbean region.
“By adding a world-renowned international artiste to the line-up, we are definitely on the right track to further enhance the carnival experience of the revellers. The Queen of Bacchanal will be clashing with local popular kings – King Kembe, King James and King Rumer.

“On the deck will be one of the best deejays in the Caribbean region, the cut creator DJ Outkast. With entertainment provided by an international superstar along with the island’s finest local artiste, the 2018 Lighted Parade is promised to be the best and biggest one ever.”

The parade will start on the ring road in Philipsburg at 8:00pm August 18 and from there follow the same route as the Carnival Day Parade.

Everyone who is interested in participation can purchase a shirt at N.C. Wathey office, Van Dorp Madame Estate, Nowhere Special, UTS stores and Caribbean Liquors and Tobacco (CLT) starting July 16. The T-shirt comes with led lights, gives the participant access to the Lighted Parade and allows the participant to make use of the open bar during the event.
