MARIGOT–A man was stabbed several times early Monday morning at the Agrément roundabout following a dispute over a vehicle, the Gendarmerie reported.
The victim suffered wounds to the back and on his side but managed to escape in a vehicle onto the Marigot waterfront where he parked near a bakery.
Passers-by there alerted the emergency services and he was transported to the French-side hospital for treatment, where his wounds were not considered life-threatening.
Gendarmes subsequently searched the Agrément and Port areas and quickly took two persons into custody at the Marigot station.
An investigation has been opened under the direction of the Prosecutor to shed more light into the cause of this incident.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Yves Paillard confirmed Monday that the body found in Baie Nettle on Sunday was that of a Portuguese worker.
It seems that while relaxing over weekend he had far too much to drink, Paillard indicated. An autopsy will be performed and drunken witnesses are being interviewed to make sure this was accidental.
The preliminary line of enquiry into the cause of death is accidental drowning.
Lieutenant Colonel Sébastien Manzoni indicated earlier the deceased was not a resident of the island but had arrived looking for construction work.
