Dominica to send provisions to Sint Maarten

POND ISLAND–A shipment of provisions, plantains and avocados will be sent to St. Maarten from Dominica next week. This news was shared by Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit when he paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister William Marlin on Sunday. Skerrit expressed his government’s willingness to assist with water and non-perishable goods.

Marlin gave Skerrit an overview of the damage caused by monster Hurricane Irma and the recovery efforts.

The Chinese Consul-General, stationed in Curaçao, also paid a visit to Marlin on Sunday. The Consul cut short his vacation to come to St. Maarten to see the damage caused by Hurricane Irma first-hand. He met with some Chinese business people who, according to a release from the Prime Minister, said they will stay here to contribute to the rebuilding.

About 28 Chinese citizens, including several expectant mothers and new-borns, “left the island for a short period,” stated the relief.
