PHILIPSBURG–Domino’s Pizza and the island of St. Maarten “truly amazed” attendees of the 2017 America’s Region Presidents Meeting held in the country from June 4 to 9.
“The island of St. Maarten was truly painted Domino’s red and blue from the moment the 120 plus master franchisees, corporate executives, invited guests, sponsors, and family members walked off the plane,” Domino’s St. Maarten said in a press release on Friday. “They were received like never before at previous meetings.”
Dow’s Steel Pan played as they arrived and they were quickly whisked away to a shorter expedited line at immigration, who were described as exceptionally welcoming. “What usually is a tense time of wondering if your luggage made it and confused of how to get to the hotel, there was a Domino’s welcome tent placed in baggage claim where all arriving passengers; whether attending the conference or not were treated to a cold Heineken or a Rum Punch. All Kids were given a slice of Domino’s Pizza,” the release said.
“It was echoed by all that they have never felt so welcome arriving on vacation or for meetings. The attendees were then transported in busses to the Westin [St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort and Spa – Ed.] where the Convention was held.”
On June 6, the meetings adjourned at half day where the group was able to tour the local Domino’s restaurants, sample some new products that are about to launch and then for an afternoon and evening of enjoying the island. All 120 went out on the Lambada and Golden Eagle Catamarans and sailed along the coast, watched airplanes land, and swam in the clear blue waters St. Maarten has to offer.
Upon returning into Simpson Bay they were “dazzled” with the “incredible and never been seen” Jet Pack delivery to the President of Domino’s International and two of the six Executive and Vice Presidents in attendance. The day wrapped up at Buccaneer Beach Bar where Carnival Dances, a DJ, a Caribbean Style bar-b-cue and a specially made Domino’s Logo Fireball entertained the crowd as they celebrated with their toes in the sand.
According to the press release, Domino’s International Public Relations team is already making preparations to have the Jet Pack delivery go viral to the media outlets around the world. This will be more great exposure for St. Maarten.
“Also totally unexpected and such a welcome surprise was that the Causeway Bridge and the [new – Ed.] Government Administration Building were both illuminated in Domino’s Red and Blue; also our country’s colours. This garnered many photos and added to the feeling that the island certainly understands and appreciates the importance of companies hosting their meetings on the island, especially now that we are in the low season,” it was stated in the release. “Many of the attendees were first time visitors who certainly brought a lot of income to the restaurants that were visited, the shops, and filled most of the rooms at the Westin Dawn Beach Resort… I am sure that there were other company’s executives on island this week who took notice how professional and amazing this island is and can handle these types of important company events,” said Domino’s St. Maarten franchisee John Caputo. “I cannot thank the Prime Minister William Marlin and his team, the SXM Airport, Immigration, SLAC (Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority Corporation) and Port of St. Maarten and of course the Domino’s team enough for making our guests feel more than welcome. This was the first time this event was held in the Caribbean, and it will certainly be remembered as the best that ever was and one that Panama will have a hard time topping when the meeting is held there in 2018,” Caputo noted.
Many attendees changed their tickets to stay longer or had already planned on doing so to further enjoy what the island has to offer. Others pledged to be back with their families and they really felt welcome and were so impressed with the island, the release said. “There are so many people and companies that really came together to make this happen and such a success. I am in awe and thankful to each and every one who was a part of this memorable week,” Caputo concluded.
