St. Maarten’s Minister Plenipotentiary Henrietta Doran-York, with Chairlady of the Committee Gerdi Verbeet, as she presented books to the students in the Netherlands.
THE HAGUE–St. Maarten Minister Plenipotentiary Henrietta Doran-York and the Minister Plenipotentiaries of Aruba and Curaçao accepted an invitation of the committee that organises the national commemoration of the Remembrance Day in the Netherlands, for soldiers and civilians killed during the second World War.
On April 4, the committee organised an event where students were presented with “Thinkbook,” which was also published by the committee. The approximately 200 students who attended the event were presented with books by the chairlady of the committee Gerdi Verbeet as well as by Doran-York and the Ministers Plenipotentiary of Curaçao and Aruba.
This year Maduro Dam is commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of war hero George Maduro, after whom it was named, when it was opened in 1952 by the then Princess Beatrix. The Ministers Plenipotentiaries were treated to a tour of the facilities after which the books were presented.
His Majesty King Willem Alexander wrote the foreword in the book, in which he encouraged readers to reflect on freedom to think and believe in whatever they wanted.
Doran-York told students to whom she presented the books that it was an honour for her to do so and encouraged them to read it and to share it with their peers.
