CAY HILL–The Down Syndrome St. Maarten and Caribbean Foundation proudly announced the start of its swimming programme for persons with Down syndrome on the island, which started Wednesday.
Classes are at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:00pm, led by instructor Franky Carty and his assistants Pedro Maria and André Legau.
The Down Syndrome Foundation thanked Maikel M.A. Cornet and his team at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex for providing this swimming programme.
“We are still looking for volunteers for transportation to and from the pool,” Foundation members said. They are also looking for more swimming instructors to also provide classes for the adult and senior groups with Down syndrome. “Feel free to contact us if you would like to volunteer or donate towards transportation,” they said.
From July there will be a stop for the summer vacation. The Foundation will give notice when the swimming programme will be starting back after the vacation.
