PHILIPSBURG–The draft 2019 budget will be presented to the Council of Ministers (COM) today, Thursday, Finance Minister Perry Geerlings announced on Wednesday.
Geerlings declined to say what the amount of the draft budget is, when asked, because he said it still has to be handled in the COM meeting today. After it has been approved by the COM, the budget will have to be further processed by the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT and the Council of Advice, which will provide an advice on the draft.
“I am counting on the speedy review by the latter,” Geerlings told The Daily Herald. He aims to have the budget submitted to Parliament around November 15.
He had told reporters during the Council of Ministers press briefing that the 2019 budget is a continuation of and addition to the second 2018 budget amendment.
“The major focal point is that we should be able to initiate the projects that need to be done. That means that the capital investment and capital expenditures part of the budget is one of the most important parts of it, because that would allow us to attract and contract loans to be able to solve issues like the dump and other major projects that we need to do right now. The 2019 budget will follow up on that.
“It is mostly on recovery and I’ve tried to facilitate my fellow ministers and ministries to be able to do what they need to do in the coming fiscal year,” Geerlings said when this newspaper asked what the major items in the budget are.
