Dutch State Secretary of Health visits SMMC | THE DAILY HERALD

SMMC management with Dutch State Secretary Blokhuis and his team on Wednesday.

CAY HILL–State Secretary of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports Paul Blokhuis paid a working visit to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) on Wednesday.

Blokhuis and his team met with the SMMC management team and medical director. This visit presented the hospital with the opportunity to share current updates.

During the meeting parties discussed developments at SMMC over the years, its current status of services after the impact of Hurricane Irma last year, the ongoing expansion of specialties and services, and the new hospital building.

As part of Blokhuis’ visit to SMMC, a hospital tour was given during which there was opportunity to meet with a representative cross-section of staff, including nurses, doctors and staff with non-clinical roles.

SMMC Medical Director Dr. Felix Holiday said, “We were delighted to welcome the State Secretary of Health Paul Blokhuis and his team to the SMMC. Blokhuis was able to hear about our journey of improvement and the significant progress in the expansion of our services to St. Maarten, Saba and Statia. We had the chance to discuss all the positive changes we’ve been putting into place that have ensured we can continue to deliver high-quality care to our patients.”
