HARBOUR VIEW–Caribbean economist Marla Dukharan has been named as the keynote speaker for the eighth annual Governor’s Symposium themed “Shaping Sustainable Economic Recovery in the Caribbean – Challenges and Opportunities” at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Cupecoy at 8:00am Friday, June 21.
Dukharan is recognized as a leading economist and advisor on the Caribbean, known for her frequent insightful analysis of the regional implications of international events. She has taken a leading role in driving discussion, public policy formation and action that foster gender equality, reduce income inequality, and promote new models of fiscal and economic resilience to lead the region toward a more prosperous and sustainable future.
The other speakers for the symposium hosted by Governor Eugene Holiday are World Bank Country Director for Caribbean countries Tahseen Sayed, Caribbean Development Bank Director of Economics Justin Ram and National Recovery Programme Bureau Director Claret Connor.
The panel of speakers will give insight into economic trends and characteristics, policy constraints and opportunities, and strategic actions in the areas of the environment, infrastructure, and economic sustainability in relation to current and future national development, among others. In particular, issues of policy implementation and financing sustainable recovery will be explored.
The presentations will culminate in an interactive panel discussion between speakers and the audience. University of St. Martin President Antonio Carmona Baez will moderate the session.
The Governor’s Symposium is strictly by invitation only due to limited seating. Some seats are available to persons ages 15 and older who are interested in attending the symposium.
