ANGUILLA–The Leeward Islands Calypso Competition is due to take place on August 11 as one of the last performances in this year’s Summer Festival. To date eight countries have confirmed participation, namely Antigua, Nevis, St. Kitts, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Monserrat, St. Maarten and host country Anguilla.
They will be competing against the reigning Leeward Islands monarch Trevor “King Zacari” Weeks from Antigua. It is also confirmed that St. Kitts will be represented by its reigning monarch Karisia “Miss Independent” Willett, Montserrat by Kenneth “Rabo” Silcott and St. Maarten by Rumini “Young Calix” Rogers.
Musical arrangements for the show will be provided by The All Star Band under the directorship of Cliffette “Ip” Isaac of St. Kitts and Wibert “Waggy” Brooks from St. Thomas. In addition, the band will comprise a fusion of talented musicians from Anguilla and St. Maarten.
The winner will receive US $4,000, the first runner-up $2,000 and second runner-up $1,000 as well as trophies. The consolation prize for other contestants is $325.
