Elgin leaving NAGICO after 17+ years, Detlef Hooyboer new CEO | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–NAGICO Insurances Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dwayne Elgin has resigned from the company and will be leaving to take on new challenges after working at the firm for almost eighteen years.

The Daily Herald understands that Elgin, who took over the post of CEO from now-Chairman of the Board Imran McSood Amjad as of January 1, 2014, told company executives in September last year that he would be resigning. He intends to start his own business in the insurance field in the country and will continue to be affiliated with NAGICO. His resignation takes effect on January 15 of this year.

Elgin joined the company in 2001 and worked his way up the ranks, eventually landing the position of Senior Executive Director of Underwriting in 2012. With 13 years of experience under his belt at the time, he obtained accreditations as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI). In addition, he has obtained associate degrees in Insurance Services (AIS), Commercial Underwriting (AU), and Reinsurance (ARe)

According to a reliable source close to the company, Aruba-based Detlef Hooyboer, who currently serves as an Executive Manager of NAGICO’s operations in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao and is CEO of NAGICO’s Life Company, will take over the baton from Elgin as CEO. Hooyboer will be relocating from Aruba to St. Maarten to take up his new position.

Hooyboer has been at the helm of NAGICO’s Aruba operation since its inception in 2003. He managed to introduce NAGICO as a new insurance company in Aruba and subsequently has managed the daily operations and management of the office. He was appointed CEO of the Life operations in December 2014.

Hooyboer holds a Master of Science degree in Business Administration, with emphasis on Strategic Management, Financial Management, Strategic Control Systems, Project Management and Management of non-profit organisations. He also has a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) degree from the American Institute for CPC.

Hooyboer’s wife Michelle Hooyboer-Winklaar is a former Minister in Aruba.
