PHILIPSBURG–National Alliance (NA) Member of Parliament (MP) Christophe Emmanuel said that Austrian-based development company Vamed is a better company to construct the new general hospital for St. Maarten and urged government to invite the company to carry out the major construction project.
Emmanuel said at a press conference, held with fellow MP Egbert Jurendy Doran, earlier this week that current contractor Inso’s parent company Condotte is bankrupt and has a lot of issues and should not be constructing the facility. Emmanuel suggested that Vamed be invited back to handle the construction since “it is clear that Inso cannot do the job.
“They (Inso) are a failing. It is a bankrupt company and the minister can say whatever he wants to say, but the facts are out there. It is a failing company. Invite Vamed back to the table and say Vamed, we believe that you are the better company to handle a project of this magnitude, however, there must be some reciprocity. The monies that government paid to you, we are requesting this money back,” Emmanuel said adding that the funds can be used to assist the Philipsburg Jubilee Library with a new home, complete roofs damaged during Hurricane Irma and assist in other projects to help the people.
“At least try it. Give Vamed a call,” he added, noting that a majority of four ministers are needed “stand up to Minister (of Health Emil) Lee.”
“Here you have the longest serving minister… and on his resume is a number of accomplishments of zeros. The good minister has nothing to show, nothing to prove, absolutely nothing as minister of VSA as to what he has done. It’s a crying shame and it’s a height of incompetence.”
In 2016, Vamed had objected to the selection of Inso as the developer of the new hospital and the court ruled in favour of Vamed.
