THE HAGUE–A group of tour operators and bloggers from Europe arrived in St. Maarten on Wednesday for a one-week familiarisation trip with focus on the 50th anniversary of carnival.

St. Maarten Minister Plenipotentiary Jorien Wuite and travel specialist Marlon Beauperthuy of LeBeau Reizen left the Netherlands on Dutch Royal Airlines KLM Wednesday with a group of 11 persons, consisting of tour operators and bloggers from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom (UK) and Belgium, and a journalist from Belgium.

Well-known Dutch TV personality/host and former singer of the girl’s band Luv Patty Brard will arrive on Thursday and join the group. Brard will photograph the sights and faces of the real St. Maarten. “To show that there is more to St. Maarten and to let people know that we are open for business,” said Beauperthuy.

Beauperthuy arranged the familiarisation trip on the request of St. Maarten Minister of Tourism and Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson and the St. Maarten Tourist Office. “The idea is to bring more tour operators and bloggers to the island, and the anniversary of 50 years carnival presents an excellent opportunity,” said Beauperthuy.

While on St. Maarten, the group will make an island tour, visit the Carnival Village several times for concerts and participate in Jouvert Morning. This Friday, the group will travel to Saba for the day, and on Monday, April 29, they will pay a one-day visit to St. Eustatius.

On St. Maarten, the group will stay at Divi Little Bay Resort. The group will travel back to Europe on May 1, via Atlanta as an alternative to the KLM St. Maarten-Curaçao-Amsterdam route.
